Geography Intent

At Cowbit St Mary’s, our Geography curriculum is designed to develop children’s curiosity, fascination and appreciation about the world and beyond. We believe that Geography opens eyes and minds to enable pupils to grow into caring and responsible citizens of the world and learn about their place within it.  Children investigate a range of places – both in Britain and abroad – to help develop their knowledge and understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes and the formation and use of landscapes and environments. We aim to foster in our children a love for learning about the environment and its landscape, where their questions are encouraged, and children are supported to become independent geographers.  We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about the village of Cowbit and the wider local area so that they can develop a real sense of who they are, their heritage and what makes our local area unique and special (Belonging).  When children leave Cowbit St Mary’s, they will have a deep understanding of how Cowbit differs to other locations in the world and why.   The children will develop the ability to apply geographical skills to enable them to confidently communicate their findings and geographical understanding to answer enquiry-led questions.

Our Geography curriculum focuses on four key areas:

  • locational knowledge,
  • human and physical geography,
  • geographical fieldwork
