Southwell Workhouse

Would you like to live in a Victorian Workhouse?

On Tuesday 5th November, Oak Class visited Southwell Workhouse following our unit on the Victorians.  We really enjoyed seeing the privy, the school house, the dormitories and cellars.

We learnt all about living conditions, day to day events even how to unpick oakum.

The staff at the workhouse were amazing and really brought history to life for the children! We particularly loved speaking to the kitchen worker who told us everything about the meals made at the workhouse.  We decided we would much rather live today than in Victorian times!
